Spanish and Portuguese Wines

CASTILLO de CALATRAVA Reserva 2015 DO La Mancha
This is made from 100% Tempranillo (Rioja), matured in oak, and now has some bottle age.
A really good value alternative to modest Rioja.

  £8.95

VINHO VERDE 2022 Este
Light, frothy, exemplary Vinho Verde, displaying flavours of fresh green apples. Lovely summer drink. Great value.

  £9.50

AZULEJO Red 2021 Vinho Regional Lisboa
Grape varieties are Castelão, Tinta Roriz (known as Tempranillo in Rioja) and Pinot Noir. Aged in oak. With a significant proportion of Tempranillo in the blend, and notes of vanilla from oak aging, the flavour reminds me of Rioja, but with a Portuguese twist.

DÃO "Porta dos Cavaleiros" 2019 Caves São João
The standard of winemaking in the Dão in recent years has improved dramatically. Here is a fine example. I bought a parcel of this wine 3 years ago, and I thought it needed time, so I hid it. It has now come round and is currently drinking really well. I have bought more, though in the meantime the price has gone up, but I still think it is well worth its modest price. It is a blend of 45% Touriga Nacional (a world class grape), 35% Tinta Roriz and 20% Alfrocheiro.

RIOJA Blanco Crianza 2018 Navajas (White)
